General:
DeTemple Guitars™ maintains a service department for its instruments, accessories and components. Services include:
  • Warranty work
  • Setups
  • Maintenance
  • Repairs
  • Modifications and customization
  • Restorations
DeTemple Guitars™ recommends that you return your Spirit Series™ (DeTemple '52™, '56™, MJ™ or P55™) guitar to us when major service is desired or necessary.

DeTemple Guitars™ maintains a database of every Spirit Series™ instrument Michael DeTemple handcrafts. This database contains a meticulous detailing of your guitar's components, dimensions, personal preferences and setup, string gauge and type, service history, photos, embedded SNAGG anti-theft serial number(s), etc. Michael is fanatical about these instruments and you can be assured that only he will make the adjustments and/or repairs.

Each DeTemple guitar comes with a personalized, one-of-a-kind owner's manual. In addition to unique tips on maintenance, and upkeep, each manual typically includes detailed ownership information, specifications, as well as an extensive photo section, with accompanying text of your guitar. Only two copies are produced (and signed by Michael) at the time the guitar is completed (one for the owner, the other for Michael's files). Duplicates are available, but only for the guitar's owner. We're not aware of any other luthier who does this, many owners are so impressed with the manual that they order additional copies.

Registration and Change of Ownership:
If you transfer your DeTemple Guitars™ Spirit Series™ guitar's ownership, or if you have purchased a DeTemple Guitars™ Spirit Series™ guitar without its original papers and documentation, please contact us immediately.

DeTemple Guitars™ maintains a database of all its instruments including client-specific detailed setup information, dimensions, specifications, service history, and other pertinent data. If you have lost or are unable to locate your original Spirit Series™ Owners Manual, you may download a new Change of Owner Registration form (Adobe Acrobat PDF format). Fill out and mail us this form, along with $176.00* (US funds), for a replacement copy of the manual.

*Plus shipping and applicable California sales tax for orders placed from or delivered within the state.

How to Ship to DeTemple Guitars:
If you are unable to personally bring your guitar in for service and it must be shipped, DeTemple Guitars™ recommends that you consider the following:
  1. Call, email or write DeTemple Guitars™ to let us know you are shipping your guitar and to obtain our shipping address.
  2. Detune all strings on your guitar one whole step.*
  3. Remove the tremolo arm, pack it along with any other loose parts or components in foam to prevent them from moving around.
  4. Use an ATA-approved flight case (ideal), or have the guitar professionally packed for shipment.
  5. Insure your guitar for the maximum value in case of loss, theft or damage.
  6. Be sure to include (within the case) written description of the desired work or problem, your name and contact information.
  7. A completed insurance form, and check (or money order) for return shipment and insuring. (Note: You may also pay this via PayPal or credit card, if it is more convenient. In which case we will contact you when your guitar is ready to be returned.)
  8. Michael recommends using FedEx Overnight Priority service. We ship all over the world using FedEx and they do an excellent job.
*Ask Michael about the use of his FretSaver™ (also discussed in your owner's manual) to help prevent guitar case damage to your frets.
Turnaround Fees:
General servicing and setups takes 3 to 7 days, plus shipping and handling time. Repairs, modifications or customization typically take longer, generally no more than 30 days.

For work other than warrantees, please call for an estimate. Payment must be made in full before we return ship.

DeTemple Guitars™ charges a $25 per month storage fee for unclaimed orders, restorations or repairs allowing for a one month grace period upon work completion. For acceptable payment methods, please see Ordering section of this site.

Note: All fees are in US funds only.
