In the process of researching our own guitar case we stumbled upon an incredible find. Ben Germain, who worked directly with Leo Fender in the early 1950s to create the original cases for his guitars, was still in business!

Here’s the story -- In 1952, the young entrepreneur and inventor, Leo Fender, was seeking a manufacturer to produce cases for his new electric guitars. He found Ben, who was a skilled craftsman and innovative thinker that had risen through the ranks at the Victoria Luggage Company in Los Angeles. Both Leo and Ben were sticklers for detail. They eventually worked out a practical design, with a classic look, that was well suited for Leo’s unique instruments.

When Victoria was sold, Ben struck off on his own, built a small factory, and staffed it with a handful of skilled craftsmen. And they’re still there today. Making cases the traditional way, out of traditional materials, entirely by hand. These beautifully made cases have endured, and remain amongst the best-selling designs of all time.

We’re very proud to be associated with Ben and his family.

DeTemple Guitars™ chose case designs and layouts from the original patterns -- but with upgraded and more durable materials. Likewise, the unusual exterior stylings is patterned after a popular design from the same period. All cases are entirely handmade right here in Los Angeles, California.

As musicians we understand your concerns about protection and security for your instruments. So our guitar cases are structurally superior products that appeal to both the vintage collector as well as the everyday working guitarist. The case shells are pressed and shaped from 3.6mm and 9mm plywood (vs. the less expensive fiberboard or composite materials). All adhesives are Ben Germain's “family secrets” designed to take one heck of a punishment.

The inside of the case -- the cradle for your instrument -- is an example of craftsmanship par excellence. The case interior is lined in luxuriously rich, red “poodle” and backed by Ethafoam® to create a soft yet secure cushion for your guitar.

Every case is covered with simulated brown alligator hide, and a rugged machine-stitched leather binding. Cases are equipped with brass-plated steel hardware (with key lock) that not only ensures the security of your instrument but looks great too. DeTemple Guitars™ cases provide your guitar with a superior quality fit.

Our cases hold DeTemple ’52™, ’56™ or P55™ models or their traditional Fender® counterparts.

Custom Cases: We build custom cases, too. So if you have a hankering for the unusual, give us a call, or an email, to discuss it.

Volume Discounts: Orders consisting of greater than twelve (12) units of the same model are eligible for sliding scale discounts. Terms for these discounts are available upon placement of order.

Each guitar case features:

  • Build from the original pattern masters by the same family who designed the cases for Leo Fender.
